The Role:As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with SEMH needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and thrive academically and socially. You will work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to create a safe, engaging, and supportive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 1:1 and Group Support: Provide tailored support to students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, addressing their unique learning and emotional needs.
  • Behavioural Support: Implement effective behaviour management strategies to help students develop positive behaviours and social skills.
  • Emotional Guidance: Offer emotional support, helping students manage their emotions, build resilience, and improve their self-esteem.
  • Classroom Assistance: Assist the class teacher in delivering lessons, ensuring all students can access the curriculum and engage with their learning.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track and monitor student progress, working with teachers and SENCOs to provide feedback and adjust support strategies as needed.
  • Safe Environment: Help maintain a safe, calm, and positive learning environment where students feel secure and supported.

Requirements:

  • Experience in SEMH: Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is essential.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents, using clear and empathetic communication.
  • Patience and Empathy: A calm, patient, and understanding approach to working with students facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to deliver the best possible support for students.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing situations and student needs, ensuring a responsive and supportive approach.
