Reed Finance are partnering exclusively with a Multi Academy Trust recruiting for a Finance Director to join them initially on a 1-year Fixed Term Contract.

The Finance Director will be an inspirational leader, providing assurance to the Chief Operating Officer, CEO, and Board of Trustees over all financial matters. This includes financial strategy, risk management, internal financial controls, financial standing, and sustainability. The role requires operating at both operational and strategic levels, effective communication with stakeholders, and the vision to deliver the organisation's financial targets. The postholder must be a qualified accountant and a transformational leader with strong influencing skills and personal resilience.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Relationships:

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues at all levels, including Board members and senior leaders.
  • Develop relationships with external bodies such as the ESFA, DFE, and local authorities.
  • Work closely with the COO to develop a financial strategy centred on pupil needs.
  • Attend and contribute to local, regional, and national networks for the academies sector.
  • Champion compliance with financial regulations and promote a value-for-money culture.
  • Support the HR Director in maintaining strategic Trade Union relationships.

People Management:

  • Lead the Finance Team, including line management of the Head of Finance.
  • Understand and positively impact organisational culture.
  • Coach and support senior leaders in financial management activities.
  • Provide clear expectations and feedback to team members.

Resource Management:

  • Contribute to strategic plans and maintain positive relations with government and stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver annual and forward-looking financial plans.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial data.
  • Lead financial due diligence for new projects and manage transfers into the organisation.
  • Implement effective procurement and purchasing strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

Decision Making:

  • Manage a strong internal control framework.
  • Design and implement a financial strategy in conjunction with the COO and CEO.
  • Recommend and manage investments.
  • Monitor performance against financial KPIs and make improvement recommendations.
  • Manage capital investments and explore income diversification opportunities.

General Expectations:

  • Maintain high expectations and promote inclusion and equity.
  • Champion the success and life chances of all children.
  • Ensure compliance with organisational policies and safeguarding practices.
