Our client, operating within the high-stakes defence sector, is actively seeking an experienced HFI Contractor. This opportunity involves a challenging and rewarding role within a human factors team, supporting engineers and other scientific disciplines in a high hazard environment.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the design development of new or modifications to existing site systems, processes, and facilities.
  • Provide human factors input into the nuclear safety assessment process.
  • Ensure successful implementation and validation of the human performance elements of the safety case within the operational business setting.
  • Provide professional support to the Principal Engineer (Human Factors).
  • Undertake human factors assessment work including task analysis, error analysis, workload analysis, ergonomic design, and human reliability analysis.
  • Prepare scopes of work, cost estimates, and programmes for human factors assessment work.
  • Check human factors assessment work undertaken by other team members.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies on Human Factors related issues.


Job Requirements:

  • First degree in Psychology plus MSc in Occupational Psychology, Applied Psychology, Industrial Psychology, or an Ergonomics based discipline.
  • Registered Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors or Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society.
  • Experience in the Human Factors field within high hazard industries.


Experience:

  • Significant experience working within high hazard process industries (e.g., nuclear, defence, or petrochemical).
  • Sound understanding of nuclear safety assessment principles and safety case production.
  • Familiarity with both HF qualitative and quantitative HRA techniques (e.g., HEART, THERP, APJ).
  • Application of human factors knowledge in support of engineering system/process design.
  • Good understanding of principles underpinning structured training development.
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with engineers and scientific disciplines on human factors related matters.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and deliver work packages against tight deadlines.
  • UK security clearance to SC level.
  • Experience in the application of psychological ethics in research and professional practice.
  • Incident/event investigation experience.
