About the Company:A leading and well-established planning consultancy is looking for an experienced Senior or Principal Town Planner to join their growing team in Bristol. With one of the largest planning teams in the region, they offer a full spectrum of planning services across sectors including residential, commercial, retail, healthcare, energy, education, and leisure. Their collaborative approach enables them to deliver high-quality planning advice to both private and public sector clients.

About the Role:This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planner looking to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing projects, mentoring junior staff, and engaging with clients. At Principal level, additional responsibilities include leading projects, securing new business, and driving strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage planning applications, appeals, and pre-application enquiries.

  • Provide strategic advice to clients on planning matters.

  • Conduct research and undertake planning appraisals to assess development potential.

  • Write high-quality reports, interpreting data and making clear recommendations.

  • Liaise and negotiate with planning officers, stakeholders, and clients.

  • Mentor and support junior planners in their development.

  • Identify business development opportunities and represent the company at external events.

Requirements:

  • MRTPI status (or working towards it for Senior Planner level).

  • At least two years of post-graduation experience for Senior Planner level; at least three years for Principal Planner level.

  • A deep understanding of the UK planning system.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.

  • A proactive and commercially aware mindset.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
