Your new role

We are working with a prestigious firm who are on the lookout for a risk lawyer to join their Risk & Compliance (R&C) team based in Bristol. This is an incredible opportunity for a risk lawyer (circa 0-3 years PQE) to join their R&C team to assist the more senior lawyers in the team. The team led by the firm's General Counsel consists of ten members within the team who are a mix of qualified lawyers and compliance specialists. The R&C team provides risk-related advice, guidance on compliance and general support to the firm. In an increasingly complex and regulated environment, the lawyers depend on an efficient R&C team to give sound and timely guidance and advice. As currently configured, the team only deals with conflicts and CDD queries by exception. The ideal candidate will already have some experience in legal Risk & Compliance or be someone with an interest in developing their career in this area. You will be a solicitor or legal executive, or the firm will also consider someone soon to be admitted or an existing solicitor apprentice. Outstanding candidates who are not qualified but with appropriate experience in a Risk & Compliance team will also be considered.Your new role

Full training and supervision in the role will be provided. This is an opportunity to work first under supervision and then independently on the daily work of the team with the potential for line management responsibilities. This includes:

  • Triage of the R&C inbox and responding to queries
  • Acting as the first point of escalation for queries from team members on how to approach issues that have arisen on tasks they are dealing with.
  • Working with other Risk Lawyer's on maintaining our breach (and other) logs, and appropriate reporting
  • Providing a 'Risk' voice on a number of internal projects
  • Assisting the more senior R&C lawyers in a number of R&C projects, including a new Client Matter Inception project,
  • Assisting with our wider Data Protection work. This includes, advising on internal notified data breaches, general Data Protection queries, DSAR requests and wider project work, working in conjunction with our Data Protection Manager.
  • Putting together materials for escalated decisions either to the other lawyers in the team or to the COLP or MLRO
  • Providing R&C guidance and support to Business Services departments and to our international offices

What you'll need to succeedYou will be circa 0-3 years PQE (Solicitor or Legal Executive) but the firm will consider other experience that is relevant. Either way, you should have proven experience in an established compliance team, ideally within a law firm. Experience of Data Protection legislation is preferred, and experience of the insurance market or time spent as a paralegal on litigation matters would be helpful but not essential. Experience of using Intapp Open software is desirable but not essential. What you'll get in returnThe firm fosters a diverse and inclusive culture, encouraging collaboration and creativity by drawing on different experiences and perspectives. Flexible working that supports your commitments outside of work is an important part of their culture and, where possible, they will support this across all roles.
