Location: Yate, Bristol, BS37 5NG

Salary: £40K – £45K PA

Job Type: Full – time, Permanent, Working Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 (1 Hour Break)

Based in Yate, North Bristol, W H Bence is a manufacturer of specialist mobile facilities such as medical screening trailers and relocatables for Breast Screening, MRI, CT, Heart Catheterisation, Chemotherapy Clinics, Fire Appliances and Emergency Service Command Centres.

Design Engineer – The Role:

We are looking for a mechanical Design Engineer with Automotive experience. This role will progress towards leading individual jobs working “cradle to the grave” from initial outset of design conception through to delivery.

Design Engineer – Key Responsibilities:

- Consult with the sales team to create innovative designs for presentations, bids, and tenders

- Liaise closely with procurement to ensure timely availability of working drawings for supplier quotations

- Provide accurate manufacturing drawings to production departments

- Represent the company and communicate with customers in person and over the phone

- Take responsibility for design quality, accuracy, timely delivery, and management

- Improve and expand Bence products

- Keep up to date with new ideas, designs, and legislation

- Investigate new materials for next-generation designs

- Ensure consistent and compliant design approaches

- Maintain and improve the standard of creative design work

- Understand the requirements of metal fabrication and woodwork/joinery for ease of production

- Identify potential cost savings through design improvements with the Production and Operations teams

- Collaborate with refrigeration suppliers to ensure suitable routing for a mobile environment

- Understand general electrical principles

Design Engineer – You:

- Relevant design engineer qualifications preferred

- Experience in mechanical background with some automotive knowledge

- Thorough understanding and working experience of Solidworks PDM software and Design Package, 2D & 3D CAD design package

- Knowledge of engineering principles

- Understand the requirements of coachbuilding metal fabrication and woodwork/joinery

- Trailer and vehicle conversion experience would be great, but not critical

- Competent to work with all aspects of Microsoft Office

- Numerate, capable of accurate calculations

-Strong problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented approach
