Education and Training

A primary school in Bristol has recently opened a new resource unit for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), and is now seeking a Psychology Graduate (or a related field such as Criminology) to join their team as a Primary Teaching Assistant. This role will involve supporting children with complex needs, including Autism and Learning Disabilities, in small classes and on a 1:1 basis.

While experience in an SEN setting is desirable, it is not essential. Graduates from related fields (e.g. Criminology and Psychology) will also be considered. The school is looking for passionate and energetic graduates who are eager to make a difference in the lives of children, offering consistent, child-centred support to ensure each child's needs are met effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support children with complex needs, Autism, and Learning Disabilities within Key Stage 1 and 2.
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists, psychologists, and support staff to provide tailored, high-quality learning support.
  • Help children achieve their individual learning objectives in literacy and numeracy.
  • Foster a positive and supportive environment that promotes the personal and academic development of each child.
Key Requirements:

To be considered for this role, candidates should be a recent Psychology Graduate living in Bristol (or within a commutable distance), or hold a degree in a related field. A strong academic background is essential, including GCSEs in Maths and English at grade 4 or above. Applicants must also have a valid, up-to-date enhanced DBS check. While experience working in an SEN environment is beneficial, it is not a strict requirement. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for working with children, especially those with special educational needs, and a strong desire to support their learning and development.

What We Offer:
  • A fantastic opportunity for a Psychology Graduate to gain valuable experience working with children with SEN.
  • A full-time, long-term role within a supportive school environment.
  • A platform for graduates aspiring to become a teacher, therapist, or counsellor.
  • The chance to work alongside a dedicated team of professionals, including psychologists and therapists, in a dynamic educational setting.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Bristol based Psychology graduate looking to build a rewarding career in education and support, with potential long-term career progression. If you are passionate about supporting children with SEN and are looking to gain invaluable experience, we'd love to hear from you.
