About the role

Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) are now recruiting for a Control Tester to join a new Control Testing Team. The Control Testing Team provide first line risk assurance over Operations ensuring key controls are regularly tested to confirm they are designed and operate effectively to manage good client outcomes.

The Control Tester role completes testing in line with HL's control standards to provide evidence to confirm controls operate effectively. They feedback their findings and support business stakeholders to identify actions to remediate and improve control effectiveness where required. The assurance provided is a key input into the assessment of risk as part of risk owners RCSA's. This is a key regulatory role which supports the evidencing of key control operational effectiveness.

What you'll be doing

  • Contributing fairly to ensure the team achieves control testing quotas in line with plan
  • Performing control tests using a defined standard control test methodology
  • Supporting the Control Specialists in the completion of risk-based thematic reviews (across Operations) in line with quarterly plan
  • Providing detailed and constructive feedback to support improvements in the design and effectiveness of controls and any remediation required
  • Performing analysis of control failures and trends to help support managers in Operations to look for ways to improve control design and effectiveness
  • Identifying and escalating as appropriate risk events / breaches from testing activities
  • Providing support and act as a reference point for Operational colleagues in designing new and improving existing controls
  • Cross skilling as contingency/development with QA Technician role

About you

  • Experience within financial services is essential
  • Previous Business Continuity or Operational Resilience control testing experience would be desirable
  • Able to be objective in approach to work and in feeding back to others
  • Ability to work as part of a small team and create an environment of joined up thinking
  • Well organised, able to plan and manage time, re-prioritising tasks where necessary
  • Ability to provide support and assistance to others
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
  • Willingness to challenge own and others understanding
  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of HL's products, services and risk management framework
  • Desire to develop own knowledge and keep abreast of internal developments
  • Strong written and exceptional oral communication skills
  • Understanding of regulatory agenda, in particular Consumer Duty, CASS, GDPR & DPA
  • Confident to challenge the status quo

Interview process

The interview process for this role is two stages including an assessment task.

Working Schedule

This role is based in our Bristol head office, BS1 5HL. This is a permanent full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We have returned to the office, however for this role we offer a hybrid flexible working pattern of working in the office and at home.
