Reed Education Cardiff are currently seeking experienced SEN Teaching Assistants for day-to-day and long-term, temporary positions within the Bristol area.

We at Reed Education Cardiff & Bristol work with a number of specialist schools, providing them with excellent candidates to fulfil their staffing needs, as well as supporting candidates with their next venture within the education sector.

With the growth of pupils with additional needs, the need for resilient and patient education professionals is increasing, meaning more schools are seeking experienced education staff to support either on a daily or long-term basis. To paint the bigger picture, the UK government released the following statistics (2023-2024- Special educational needs in England, Academic year 2023/24 - Explore education statistics - GOV.UK);

  • 4.8% pupils in England with an EHC plan, up from 4.3% in 2023
  • 13.6% of pupils with SEN support, up from 13% in 2023
  • 1,238,851 pupils in schools in England without an EHC plan, up by 4.7% from 2023
  • 434,354 pupils in schools in England with an EHC plan, up by 11.6% from 2023

The correlation between these statistics, along with the growth of need for specialist staffing provides the bigger picture, where the need for experienced staffing is a real requirement within schools; both mainstream and specialist.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, there are many avenues you can work within, such as a Pupil Referral Unit, ASD school, SEMH school, SEND school and Education Centres. All needs are completely different, with each school’s pupil demographic differing based on the requirements of support needed. Some may have challenging behaviours, others may require personal care – no child is the same.

The requirements for these roles include:

  • Experience with Special Education Needs, or experience within a regulated role (such as care, support, schools)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service will be required, but can be obtained through Reed
  • A passion for working with young people, catering to their individual needs
