An exciting opportunity has arisen at a primary school in Bristol for a SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with complex Autism and Learning Disabilities. This is a full-time, long-term role for graduates or candidates with relevant experience. The SEN children are aged 4 to 11, and they require consistent, ongoing support to ensure they receive the highest quality of care and child-centred assistance.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Psychology graduates or those in related fields like Criminology to gain invaluable experience working with Special Needs and Mental Health issues. The successful candidate will work closely with the therapists and psychologists based on-site, shadowing sessions and learning directly from them.
Role Overview
- Provide 1:1 and group support to children with Autism and complex learning disabilities
- Collaborate with the school's therapists and psychologists for ongoing professional development
- Assist with developing strategies to meet individual needs, focusing on mental health and special needs
- Gain hands-on experience in an education and training environment
Candidate Requirements
- A degree (preferably in Psychology, Criminology, or a related field)
- Experience working with SEN children or adults (e.g. youth work, support work, personal experience with family members, etc.)
- Strong communication and empathy skills
- Level 3 qualifications or above is required
- Proactive and adaptable approach with the ability to use initiative
- Must be open-minded and ready for a challenge
