A Schools' Trust in SE London is seeking an Ed' Psych to assess pupils in a new SEN school that is joining the Trust.

Salary negotiable.

Part-time as a consultant for a few months , possibly longer.

Your Skills:

Key Qualifications:

  • A degree in Psychology, with further post-graduate training or a Doctorate in Educational Psychology.
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies (e.g. Health and Care Professions Council, British Psychological Society).
  • Knowledge of educational systems, policies, and legislation related to special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Experience working with children and young people in an educational or clinical setting.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex psychological data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.

Job Purpose:

The Educational Psychologist works with children, young people, and educational staff to assess, support, and enhance the learning and development of students, particularly those facing difficulties. The role focuses on identifying psychological barriers to learning, recommending interventions, and promoting strategies to improve educational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Evaluation:
  • Conduct psychological assessments and evaluations for children and young people to understand their cognitive, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Analyse data from various sources, including interviews, questionnaires, and observations, to provide comprehensive assessments.
  • Intervention and Support:
  • Provide direct interventions for students with a range of needs, including learning difficulties, behavioural issues and emotional challenges.
  • Develop individualised plans to support students’ needs and collaborate with teachers and parents to implement these strategies.
  • Consultation and Collaboration:
  • Advise schools, teachers, and other educational staff on best practices for supporting students with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Work closely with parents and caregivers to ensure consistent and effective support for children.
  • Training and Professional Development:
  • Offer training to educators and school staff on psychological theories, interventions, and strategies to support learning and development.
  • Stay current with research and developments in educational psychology to enhance practice.
  • Research and Analysis:
  • Conduct research into educational and psychological issues affecting students and use findings to inform practice.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and strategies aimed at improving the educational experience for all students.
  • Report Writing:
  • Write clear and concise reports based on psychological assessments, offering recommendations for interventions and strategies to support students' learning and well-being.
  • Referral and Support:
  • Refer students to other professionals (e.g. speech therapists, counsellors) when necessary, ensuring a holistic approach to support.
  • Provide follow-up to assess the effectiveness of interventions and adjust as needed.

Work Environment:

  • Based within a pupil referral unit and other educational settings.
  • May require travel between schools or other settings.
  • May involve working in multidisciplinary teams alongside teachers, special educational needs coordinators, speech therapists, and social workers.
