An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Best Interest Assessors to join the Deprivation of Liberty Team at the London Borough of Bromley. We are seeking dedicated professionals to undertake Best Interest Assessments (BIAs) and support individuals under the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake Best Interest Assessments in residential/nursing homes and hospitals.
- Complete community deprivation of liberty applications to the Court of Protection.
- Assess and make recommendations for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
- Conduct DoLS reviews and respond to urgent referrals within statutory deadlines.
- Prepare and present cases to the Court of Protection when required.
- Work in partnership with internal and external professionals, ensuring a coordinated response to service users and carers.
- Chair and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings.
- Provide professional guidance and training on BIA practice issues within Adult Social Care.
- Maintain accurate records using Liquid Logic and other systems.
- Support junior colleagues, students, and administrative staff through supervision and training.
- Undertake safeguarding investigations in line with Council policies and procedures.
Requirements:
To be shortlisted, your application must demonstrate:
- Best Interest Assessor qualification, plus a DipSW, CQSW (or equivalent) or be RGN/RMN or OT qualified with registration under SWE, HCPC, or NMC.
- Proven experience in Mental Capacity and Best Interests Assessments.
- Experience in completing Court of Protection Applications (COP3, COP24, and COP11).
- In-depth knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, DoLS, Human Rights Act, and relevant legal frameworks.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and make complex decisions regarding individuals' liberty.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Competency in Liquid Logic, Excel, and producing high-quality reports that withstand legal scrutiny.
- Ability to analyse complex information and make independent, professional decisions.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential due to the nature of the role).
