About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to oversee the efficient operation of a fleet of 30 to 50 vehicles, including HGVs, vans, and other transport assets. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity with the potential for a long-term role within a growing company.
As Transport Manager, you will be responsible for compliance, driver management, fleet efficiency, and ensuring the safe and legal operation of all vehicles. You will play a key role in optimizing transport operations to meet business demands while maintaining cost efficiency and high service levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily transport operations, ensuring vehicles are maintained, scheduled, and utilized efficiently.
- Ensure full compliance with DVSA, Operator Licensing, and FORS (if applicable), along with all transport legislation.
- Manage, train, and monitor drivers, ensuring adherence to tachograph rules, working hours, and health & safety policies.
- Optimize routes and loads for cost-effectiveness and service efficiency.
- Coordinate vehicle servicing, inspections, and repairs, ensuring roadworthiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Monitor fuel usage, maintenance costs, and overall transport budgets to improve cost efficiency.
- Investigate accidents, manage insurance claims, and implement preventative measures to minimize risks.
- Liaise with internal departments, external suppliers, and customers to ensure smooth logistics operations.
Requirements:
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) - Not essential
- Experience managing 30-50+ vehicles, including HGVs
- Strong knowledge of transport legislation and compliance
- Experience with driver management, fleet scheduling, and cost control
- Proficiency in transport management systems & telematics
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
