The role:
The role of the Transport Operations Manager is to provide day to day management, compliance and safety of the Company vehicle fleet of 250 plus cars, vans and HGV vehicles.
You will be part of the senior leadership team reporting directly to the Managing Director.
The business operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so, with other Managers you may be required to deal with some issues outside of core hours
Duties of the position include:
Provide leadership, giving work instructions, monitoring performance and compliance within the associated fleet.
Perform the role of line manager to administration staff in the Fleet Department
Manage, motivate, train and develop staff as required with direct Line Managers.
Deal effectively with any under performance, implementing disciplinary procedures if required.
Monitor vehicle defect reporting, inspection/maintenance records and present vehicles at company and third party workshop for repairs.
Ensure that all aspects of Health and safety are adhered to, including H&S induction, training, operating procedures and accident/near miss reporting.
Be part of the senior Management Team and provide advice to them and others on all transport related issues including current and future legislation.
Provide all necessary information for effective fleet accident management, liaising directly with Company insurers and other third parties
Maintain an awareness of new developments in transport operations to ensure that the company continue to provide the most effective service possible and complies with all regulations.
Complete all administrative tasks associated with the role, below are some of the daily duties-
- Monitoring progress of repairs
- Updating and producing the Daily Vehicle Allocation Record
- Monitoring defect reporting and arranging non scheduled repairs
- Tachograph record administration
- Maintaining the MID database
- Provide reports on Fleet Maintenance against target
Salary Package
£46,000 - £50000 per annum plus bonus
Annual Bonus scheme based on % of fleet maintained to agreed targets up to £5,000 plus overall Company profit share bonus of up to an additional £5,000
Competencies / experience required:
Positive, creative, innovative but also hands on at all times
Broad knowledge of LCV and HGV maintenance procedures
Proficient user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
National or International CPC Holder
Excellent communication skills and experience of dealing with external and internal suppliers and customers
A strong understanding of the transport industry's KPIs
Experience of successfully managing customer relationships
