We are recruiting for a Production Manager on behalf of a leading metal supplier based in Burntwood. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced individual to lead the bar production department, ensuring smooth operations, high-quality standards, and continuous improvement.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operations Management:
    Oversee all bar production activities, ensuring efficient use of resources to meet increasing customer demand. Manage production schedules and ensure that all operations run in line with the company’s KPIs for quality, delivery, and cost. Collaborate closely with sales and operations teams to maintain real-time production programs and ensure delivery timelines are communicated clearly.

  • Health & Safety:
    Ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety protocols, conducting regular safety checks, and promoting a strong safety culture on-site. Manage Risk Assessments (RAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all production processes, ensuring they are up to date and that staff are trained and competent in their roles.

  • Team Leadership & Development:
    Lead a skilled production team by fostering a positive working environment that encourages collaboration and personal development. Regularly assess team performance and implement development programs to build a multi-skilled workforce. Maintain clear two-way communication with the team to ensure business objectives are understood and met.

  • Maintenance & Equipment Management:
    Work closely with the maintenance team to monitor machine performance, reduce downtime, and ensure efficient operation of all equipment. Implement systems for tracking machine downtime, repair costs, and servicing to identify areas for productivity improvements and cost savings.

  • Continuous Improvement:
    Champion continuous improvement across the production department by identifying opportunities to optimize processes, reduce waste, and improve overall operational performance. Lead and engage the team in improvement initiatives, ensuring measurable targets are set and achieved.

  • Quality Control:
    Ensure the production process adheres to stringent quality standards. Support investigations into non-conformances and collaborate with the Quality team to resolve issues. Ensure all production processes comply with the company’s Quality Management System and contribute to enhancing customer satisfaction.

 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience in a production management role, ideally within a manufacturing or metal production environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a multi-skilled workforce.
  • A solid understanding of operational processes, Health & Safety regulations, and quality management systems.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Experience with machine maintenance management and working knowledge of production tracking systems is a plus.
