Alexander Daniels have been engaged by a leading FMCG business in Burton-on-Trent to help them recruit a Commercial Finance Business Partner.

As a Commercial Finance Business Partner, you will provide coaching and strategic commercial insights to various stakeholders, guiding decisions on investments and new initiatives, also evaluating trends and lessons learned from past activities. This role is crucial to the financial management of the business, ensuring that financial control and governance are continuously enhanced.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to drive insights, accountability, and value for the business by providing analysis and spending substantial time with partners to understand brand and product execution

  • Effectively translate financial performance to non-finance stakeholders, creating clear understanding and guiding future actions, tailored for different audiences and levels of seniority.

  • Focus on forecast accuracy through close stakeholder relationships and coaching, conducting sessions to align plans with expectations, and collaborating across teams for annual budgeting.

  • Assess investment proposals and initiatives, analyse ROI on brand spend, and advise on complex deal structures, managing the balance sheet and providing risk and opportunity insights to management.

  • Ensure financial control and accuracy by managing key financial processes, including period reviews, P&L, and balance sheet reconciliations, while maintaining and improving financial controls.

  • Support and coach the central Financial Analyst team to ensure high-quality output, aiding in the success of the business partnering role.

  • Serve as the financial lead on strategic projects aligned with company objectives.

  • Manage the full end-to-end process for the factored business, including ledger management, and partnering with the trading team to oversee price variances and promotional income/expenditure.

The successful Financial Controller will possess the following skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Recognised accounting qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) and preferably educated to degree level
  • At least 5 years in a similar commercially-focused role.
  • Sector experience in FMCG / retail / distribution preferred
  • Advanced to Excel skills in analysis, reporting and commercial modelling.
  • Strong communicator and business partner experience
