Major Recruitment are seeking a skilled Welder / Fabricator to join our clients engineering company, specialising in special purpose machinery and bespoke engineering projects. This role involves working from technical drawings to manufacture parts for a wide range of equipment and machinery, with tasks including welding ferrous and non-ferrous fabrications and assisting in constructing sub-assemblies and finished machines.

Salary:25,000 to 40,000 per year, depending on experience

Working Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 07:30 - 16:00
  • Friday: 07:30 - 13:00 (early finish)

Job Description:

  • Manufacture parts for special purpose machinery, including process automation, testing and inspection equipment, motor show displays, jigs and fixtures, powder sieves, and material handling systems.
  • Work on one-off machines and contribute to concept invention, design, and validation.
  • Follow technical drawings to manufacture parts and adhere to safe practices.
  • Assist with machine fitting and assembly.
  • Use engineering knowledge and technical insight to problem-solve and fault-find.
  • Install machines on site with the mechanical team and perform service and repair work as required.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of practical experience in a workshop environment.
  • Experienced in fabrication and welding (MIG, TIG) with all metals/materials.
  • Ability to read schematics and technical drawings.
  • Comfortable working with fellow engineers on projects and tasks, and independently.
  • Competent in time management, planning, and prioritization.
  • Driving license desirable.
  • Easy-going, friendly, self-motivated, and takes pride in work, setting a great example to others.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with machine operating, turning, milling, and grinding (not essential).
  • CNC experience would be advantageous but not required.
  • Forklift license desirable but not essential.
  • Interest in design, engineering, and making.
