The client
My client, an award winning national contractor are currently looking to recruit a Project Quantity Surveyor to join their team. This business has a strong track record within the delivery of major infrastructure projects up to the value of £20m. They are regarded as true specialist within civil engineering, demolition, enabling works, infrastructure, basements and substructures, hard and soft landscaping and external works.
The role
As a new Quantity Surveyor, you will provide the necessary Contractual and Commercial expertise supporting the site teams and others alike from pre, through to post construction. You’ll assist the commercial management with procurement and implementation of subcontracts and liaise regularly with external stakeholders and clients to ensure best commercial outcomes are achieved. You’ll be expected to seek to develop other members of the team (trainee/ assistant QS’s) by setting good examples to support and pass on your experience when and where possible.
Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor heads the Commercial team on appointed projects and will:
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of project(s) contractual and commercial requirements
Demonstrate a thorough understanding and competent execution of the monthly reconciled values and updated forecasts
Performing Value management and cost control.
Prepare accurate draft sub-contracts and/or to approve such drafts as prepared by subordinates to the level of responsibility delegated by the individuals supervisors.
The candidate
I am looking for someone with experience of civils, infrastructure and groundworks packages, including highways, waste water, aviation, local authority and other civil engineering projects. Ideally holding a degree in Quantity Surveying, along with CSCS accreditation and a good understanding of SF’s of contracts JCT, NEC and ICE.
My client wants someone with the drive and passion to grow with an already busy and fast paced team, who can show an understanding of the tender information and process, with sound negotiation skills and be able to chair commercial meetings with relevant stakeholders.
It is essential that you have a background in engineering contracts and strong negotiation and communication skills ,All applicants must be able to work well under pressure / to tight deadlines.
