Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Fire Safety Officer on behalf of our client based in Bury

This is a full-time role 37 hours with a salary of £19 - £24.03 / hr.

Temporary contract until March 2025 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advise on fire issues relating to building structure and fabric, services, alterations and maintenance.
  • Communicate and liaise with Designated Responsible Persons to advise on the introduction and maintenance of appropriate fire precautions, risk control measures and manage fire safety compliance across the Council’s buildings.
  • Liaise with the Lead Officer for Fire Safety in the H & S Team to ensure all fire safety arrangements across all Council buildings meet current legislative requirements
  • Write new Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) as required across all Council buildings and correctly identify appropriate fire risk precautions and control measures that need to be introduced.
  • Review, update and monitor existing FRAs on an annual basis or sooner if any significant changes have occurred
  • Provide fire safety compliance information reports to Senior Leader Team as required.
  • Advise on new build fire safety requirements.
  • Develop and update fire prevention strategies.
  • General day to day monitoring of fire precautions.
  • Monitor and mitigate unwanted fire alarm activations. Monitor the arrangement of regular fire drills across all Council buildings
  • Develop fire safety policies, procedures and arrangements in line with the Bury Council Health & Safety Policy.
  • Prepare and deliver training programmes relating to all aspects of fire safety to the designated Responsible Persons, keeping staff at each Council building informed about changes in fire safety policies and procedures and updates to legislation.
  • Manage the provision of all training requirements in relation to Evac Chair management.
  • Liaise with GMFRS on all aspects of fire safety in all Council buildings.
  • Undertake fire safety management spot checks across all Council buildings.
  • Work with on-site staff to monitor, as part of the audit strategy, records of all incidents, false alarms and bomb warnings and provide debriefs and establish lessons learnt.
  • Implement and maintain an audit strategy for all relevant fire arrangements within all Council buildings.

Person Specification

  • Liaise with Bury Council specialist staff eg. in: Admin Buildings Facilities Management, Architectural Services, Health & Safety Team (Lead Officer for Fire Safety) and Officers of GMFRS as required.
  • Act as a point of contact with GMFRS on all fire safety issues relating to all buildings.
  • Advise on fire issues relating to the day-to-day activities of occupants of all Council buildings.
  • Provide advice and guidance on fire safety in relation to people who require assistance in the event of an evacuation and compliance with Equality Act requirements, and the provision and maintenance of evacuation chairs and other aids.
  • Liaise with other managers and staff on fire safety issues.
  • Ability to relate well with a wide range and level of people including representatives from enforcement agencies.
  • To fully co-operate with the Department’s and the Council’s managers in all matters relating to occupational health and safety.
  • To ensure that the Department’s and the Council’s health and safety arrangements are applied.
  • To report any damage to equipment and shortcomings in local arrangements to a supervisor or line manager
