Health & Safety Manager (Housing)

We are seeking a dedicated Health & Safety Manager to join our Housing Services team. This role is crucial for ensuring that homes, residents, and staff are kept safe and that our team complies with all applicable health and safety legislation. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and developing health and safety policies and procedures across various locations within the Borough.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Deliver top-tier health and safety management, fostering a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Oversee health and safety requirements for repairs, maintenance, and construction works.
  • Conduct risk assessments for Housing Service activities, ensuring control measures are effectively implemented and monitored.
  • Implement a Permit to Works system for all communal areas and establish safe systems of work for high/medium risk operations.
  • Regularly inspect according to the health and safety audit plan, addressing any deficiencies with effective action plans.
  • Develop and deliver health and safety training and communication programs.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, ensuring appropriate control and prevention measures are in place.
  • Monitor and review contractor health and safety management and performance.
  • Provide regular health and safety updates to the Head of Building Safety.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Recognised Health & Safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH).
  • Minimum experience in a similar role within social housing or local authority settings.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively in a political environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of managing extensive data and reports.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to train and mentor staff.
  • Knowledge of CDM and contractor management, preferably within repairs and maintenance.
