Bury Council are looking for a Planning Officer to join their repairs department. This role is crucial for scheduling and managing repair works effectively to meet the council's operational targets. The position offers a competitive hourly rate and requires a commitment to a full-time schedule for the next five months.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Schedule works orders in line with repairs priorities, ensuring targets are met through effective work distribution and scheduling.
  • Take timely corrective actions when rearranging appointments.
  • Raise works orders and allocate jobs to operatives, sub-contractors, and partners, maintaining high performance at all times.
  • Monitor changes to workload and available resources in real time to implement effective actions ensuring work completion on schedule.
  • Provide advice and support to Customer Contact Centre Advisors, tenants, and other service users regarding the diagnosis of repairs, contractor selection, and operative availability.
  • Work with Bury stores and other third-party suppliers to ensure materials are ordered correctly and follow up on arrival dates.
  • Contact customers to schedule repair appointments once parts are in stock and manage customer expectations.
  • Assist in the investigation of complaints and Councillor enquiries and identify areas for service improvement.
  • Participate in a shift rota to ensure service coverage from 8am to 5pm as required by Bury Council.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in planning or a related field.
  • Additional 1 year experience in a dynamic response system (DRS) environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages including Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to come into the office as required and participate in shift duties.
