Job Role:

The Senior Engineer - Systems will be able to apply their subject matter expertise and domain experience, to support more senior roles in their team and other stake holding teams in delivering systems and products to the submarine design, build, and through-life support programmes

You will have a good working awareness of the relevant maritime legislation, industry and defence standards. You will work with appropriate supervision and support to develop an understanding of the customer and user needs of the system and how they will influence and impact design activities.

The Senior Engineer - Systems shall utilise their knowledge and experience to undertake activities including but not limited to:

  • Systems Integration
  • System Architecting
  • Requirements Definition and Management
  • Verification and or Validation
  • Qualification design

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of design solutions to agreed time, cost and quality in accordance with project or business milestones
  • Support the development and management of requirements specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform or programme
  • Ensure compliance against contractual requirements and that work is undertaken in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual and local business processes, standards, procedures and documentation
  • Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority.
  • Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems, and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities.
  • Review relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately
  • Support the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it in order to support bids, proposal development and project planning activities for various systems.
  • Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer
  • Work with various engineering teams to improve own levels of domain knowledge and subject matter expertise.

Key Deliverables:

  • Capture technical requirements in accordance with company and programme processes
  • Liaise with both internal and external customers as required ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed
  • Deliver compliant technical solutions against contractual requirements and regulations
  • Deliver design documentation generated, captured, configured and controlled in accordance with company processes
  • Produce design change requirements and documentation generated, captured, configured and controlled in accordance with company processes
  • Provide technical input to LCM deliverables and Design Reviews 
  • Provide technical input, review and support into project beyond immediate scope as an independent thereof
  • Deliver Quality, Safety and, Security justifications and/or supporting evidence as appropriate to the specific project

Key Attributes:

  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering process and practices in the defence, maritime or closely linked industry and the correct recognition of the context of their work within the overall product an academic basis underpinning the discipline
  • Knowledge of the engineering lifecycle with experience of operating in the phase relevant to the role and awareness of the entire engineering lifecycle
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering standards, including safety and environmental regulations
  • The correct recognition of the context of their work within the overall product and platform/programme.
  • Understand the need and have awareness of Product Safety and SHE.
