Service and Commissioning Engineer

Huxley Bertram Engineering Limited is a leader in bespoke special purpose machines and automated equipment, providing and supporting many machines in the UK and around the world. Our Service & Commissioning Engineers operate from the company based in Waterbeach, Cambridge, providing both office and field support.

As a Huxley Bertram Service and Commissioning Engineer, you will help set up, assemble, and test machines in Waterbeach, attend onsite installations and commissioning, conduct corrective and preventative maintenance, and provide after sales technical support.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced Service and Commissioning Engineer, or similar, with a history of working with automation, product handling and or special purpose machinery. Other skills include PLC programming and fault finding, electrical wiring, mechanical fitting and the ability to work well with others. A willingness to travel nationally and internationally often at short notice is required.

The Service and Commissioning Engineer Role:

  • Responding to customer callouts
  • Evaluating and resolving problems e.g. mechanical, electrical and / or control
  • Assisting with the installation of equipment
  • Liaising with and working alongside technical sales engineers
  • Offering customer training
  • Repairing, testing, and maintaining equipment
  • Monitoring the performance of products, Maintaining manuals
  • Providing customers with regular reports and feedback on their service requests
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with customers
  • Making recommendations to maintenance technicians
  • Offering feedback on future product development, features and functions
  • Likely, several travel trips per annum (1-2 weeks in duration each)

Candidates: As the right candidate, you will have/be:

  • Educated to HND/HNC/City & Guilds in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar
  • Experience working on and with Mechanical and Electrical industrial machinery is essential
  • Experience with automation, product handling
  • Able to read mechanical/electrical drawings
  • Electrical wiring and mechanical fitting skills
  • PLC programming and fault-finding experience would be advantageous
  • Servo-hydraulic experience, would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of NI LabView, also advantageous
  • The willingness to travel nationally and internationally, Full UK driving licence

Location: Huxley Bertram machines are used all over the world. The role will require working in Waterbeach, Cottenham and on clients’ sites in the UK and worldwide.

Package: The expected remuneration is as follows:

  • Salary: £40,000-£55,000, plus overtime and discretionary bonus
  • Flexible working hours (Mon-Fri): 40 hours per week, core time 0930 to 1530
  • 28 days including Bank Holidays, Plus, discretionary holidays over the Christmas period
  • Membership to the Huxley Bertram Employment Benefit Trust scheme
  • Pension and Critical Illness and Death in Service insurances
