Robert Half are exclusively partnered with a market leading organisation in South Cambridgeshire who are looking to recruit a new Financial Controller/Head of Finance. This position has arisen as a result of a restructure in the business ownership and will now be taking on further responsibilities within the SME group of companies.

To be successful in this role you will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) and be able to demonstrate an ability to take on new skills and processes quickly. The role will report directly to the Managing Director and hold responsibility for 3 direct reports.

Key responsibilities:

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts using local accounting systems and Microsoft Excel for 2 operating subsidiaries.
  • Present the financials to the CEO and COO
  • Preparation of a Quarterly Finance report for two subsidiaries
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT returns for 1 of the subsidiaries and coordinate with an external consultant on the Group Vat submission.
  • Preparation of payroll returns and other statutory returns for 2 entities.
  • Preparation and review of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts and monthly cashflow forecasts and discuss with relevant managers on monthly basis.
  • Review year end statutory financial accounts, prepare the audit file, and work with auditors through the audit process
  • Control stock of stock management and reporting.
  • Working closely with the Account Managers on the financial impact of proposed retail, reseller and B2B pricing changes.
  • Ensuring the internal control systems are effective and appropriate, and review regularly.
  • Ensuring all internal financial processes are reviewed regularly for effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that all accounting policies are in compliance with UK GAAP for management accounts as agreed and are being fully adhered to.
  • Manage credit control and ensuring cash is collected within terms.
  • Monthly billing is raised accurately and on time
  • Review monthly balance sheets reconciliation's with supporting documentation are completed.
  • Support with purchase invoice entry through busy periods and holidays
  • Ensure all suppliers are paid on time and invoices are processed on time.
  • Developing and motivating the Finance team.
  • Assist in the Treasury Management to ensure liquidity and maximise return on cash deposits.
  • Report of cash balances daily to the Directors.
  • Assist the CEO in ad hoc projects

Skills and qualifications:

  • UK Qualified Accountant with a recognised body such as an ACA, ACCA or CIMA
  • Management accounts experience
  • Very strong spreadsheet and data manipulation skills
  • Staff management experience
  • Ability to work in fast moving environment and meet deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to think ahead and pre-empt problems and issues
  • Open and friendly communication style
  • Straight shooter and self-managed

Salary and Benefits:

The role of Financial Controller/Head of Finance is offered with a salary of up to £80,000 plus bonus and will be based full time in the office, with occasional London travel.
