Assistant Houseparent (Non-residential or Residential)

Role Purpose:
Support the Pastoral & Boarding team by providing a safe, caring environment for students. Act "in loco parentis" and ensure boarders have a positive, home-like experience.

Working Hours:
4 days a week + every other weekend (Part-time option available)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong relationships with students and support their academic, social, and personal development.
  • Ensure students follow school schedules, including leaving for lessons on time and adhering to curfew.
  • Work with the boarding team to provide high-quality care, following policies on student welfare, illness, and emergencies.
  • Collaborate with staff on academic and pastoral issues.
  • Monitor and enforce residence rules, logging incidents and maintaining records.
  • Manage leave requests and supervise younger students closely.
  • Assist with student reports, boarding house administration, and extracurricular activities.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Actively promote and safeguard student welfare, reporting concerns to the safeguarding team.
  • Handle incidents sensitively and participate in ongoing safeguarding training.

Person Specification:

  • Knowledge of national and local boarding regulations (NMS, CIW).
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage difficult situations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Professional and courteous in dealings with students, parents, and staff.

Terms & Conditions:

  • Holiday: 45 days, taken during college breaks
