We are currently partnering with a Not-for-Profit organisation in Cambridge to recruit a Head of Governance. This role is paying £50,000 - £55,000 + benefits.

This Not-for-Profit organisation aim is to inspire people to achieve their full potential. They support an annual community of 1000 people and are based in the heart of Cambridge City Centre.

Head of Governance:

  • Ensure the Governing Body, Council, Finance Committee, and all their sub committees receive high quality committee support services.
  • Verify all statutory obligations and deadlines are met in a timely and considered fashion, including being the principal contact point for all Charity Commission matters.
  • Ensure that all papers are with the Chair and Lead Officer 8-10 working days before the meeting for final sign off.
  • Manage the Committee Elections Process, ensuring that the Committee Membership lists are kept up to date.
  • Carry out Clerk of Committees duties.
  • Review all unreserved minutes produced by Committees.
  • Identify and advise on the regulatory implications flowing from the organisation's charitable status.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures in relation to Charity Commission requirements of a charity and its Trustees are kept up to date.
  • Collate information in reports or proposals going to or from Governing Body, Council or Finance Committee into regular reports to the wider community.
  • Ensure timely responses to FOIA and Subject Access Requests.
  • Assist Senior staff with queries relating to data protection.
  • Lead on annual review of the Records Management Schedule.
  • Review and update the Data Protection Policy, Data Protection Statements and Freedom of Information Schedule.

Head of Governance:

  • Relevant professional qualification, e.g. ICSA, law, accountancy, audit.
  • Degree educated or significant management experience in a governance role.
  • Previous work in governance /compliance in the Not-for-Profit sector.
  • A strong understanding of the Charity Commission's governance requirements.
  • Ability to evidence previous report writing at Committee and Board level.
  • Role model behaviours and act with the highest level of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality.
  • Adaptable to change within a dynamic organisation and regulatory environment.
  • Excellent written skills for committee report and minutes writing.
  • Comfortable with new and developing software systems.
  • Flexible with the ability to work well under pressure, manage competing priorities, and deliver to strict deadlines.
