Our client is a residential developer operating in both the UK housing market delivering sustainable homes. Our client is a privately owned developer who operate in the Midlands, property types ranging from 2-bedroom houses to 5-bedroom houses.

Job Description:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Estimator to join our clients team and contribute to the successful delivery of residential construction projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for housing developments, including materials, labour, and other project-related expenses. This role requires a strong understanding of construction processes, excellent numerical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, architects, and contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for residential housing projects, including new builds, refurbishments, and renovations.

Analyse project plans, specifications, and drawings to determine the scope of work and materials required.

Obtain and review supplier and subcontractor quotes to ensure competitive pricing and accurate cost projections.

Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to refine estimates and adjust for design changes or unforeseen conditions.

Conduct site visits when necessary to gather information and assess project requirements.

Monitor and track project costs, providing regular updates and variance reports to senior management.

Assist in the preparation of tender documents, bids, and proposals for new projects.

Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering solutions.

Maintain a comprehensive database of pricing information, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Ensure all estimates comply with relevant regulations, standards, and company policies.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

Proven experience as an estimator within the housing, construction, or property development sectors.

Strong understanding of residential construction processes, materials, and labour requirements.

Excellent numerical and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.

Proficiency in estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong communication and negotiation skills for liaising with suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

A degree or qualification in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Knowledge of building regulations, health and safety standards, and planning processes.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience with affordable housing projects, social housing, or public sector developments.
  • Familiarity with sustainability and energy-efficient building practices.
  • Membership with a professional body such as RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building).
