SEMH Teaching Assistant - Canterbury
Academics are currently working with a specialist SEN school located in the heart of Canterbury, Kent. This well regarded school are committed to providing high-quality education and support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school offers a nurturing and inclusive environment where each child's well-being and academic potential are at the forefront of everything they do.
The Role:
Academics are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join the school's team. The successful candidate will support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, providing essential assistance in their learning, development and emotional well-being. You will work closely with the class teacher to ensure that students with SEMH needs are given the best opportunity to thrive both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to students with SEMH needs, both individually and in small groups
- Assist with the planning and delivery of tailored learning activities
- Support students in developing social skills and managing emotions
- Foster a safe and positive learning environment
- Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to monitor progress and adapt strategies
- Offer pastoral care and ensure students feel supported and valued
- Promote inclusion and participation in all school activities
Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a school setting with SEMH students (UK experience preferred)
- A passion for supporting students with emotional and mental health challenges
- Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Patience, resilience, and a positive approach to behaviour management
- Right to work in the UK
- A DBS check will be required
