Cobb & Jones are delighted to be working with reputable charity based in Canterbury, supporting them in their search for a Finance Director on a 1 Year FTC, paying between £75k and £85k, with hybrid working available. The Director of Finance will contribute to the overall management of the charity and is the strategic lead for the finance department, compliance and risk, driving and overseeing effective and high-quality financial planning, compliance, IT and risk management. The post holder will undertake regular reviews of financial systems and controls, working collaboratively with other areas of the charity, ensuring a joined-up approach, embedding change, and developing efficient and effective new ways of working, with continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Strategy Development, Leadership & Management:
- Develop and implement the financial strategy that supports the overall the overall organisational strategic aims and objectives.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and review strategic plan.
- To lead and manage the finance team, ensuring it functions efficiently.
- To drive, manage and support change effectively.
- To identify and manage risks to the organisation and take action to mitigate them.
Financial Control and Reporting:
- Review and implement financial systems, controls, policies, and procedures in regard to all activity including planning, budgeting, income generation, expenditure and reporting.
- Ensure organisation-wide compliance with internal financial procedures and legal compliance.
- Devise and implement new initiatives, working practices or system improvements to ensure effective financial controls and procedures.
- Ensure accurate records are kept for all financial processes.
- Prepare reports for the Leadership Team and Board of Trustees analysing performance against KPIs.
Budgeting and Planning:
- Develop the annual budget and financial forecasting in collaboration with the Leadership and Senior Management Team.
- Oversee cashflow management.
Financial Accounting:
- Prepare year end accounts and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice.
- Lead on audit processes, ensuring compliance.
Compliance, IT and Risk Management:
- Oversee the IT infrastructure, ensuring appropriate development and maintenance of IT systems.
- Oversee organisational compliance including gaining and retaining accreditation certificates including ISO accreditation.
- Oversee risk management policies and processes.
Collaboration:
- Share best practice with members of the Leadership Team and work in collaboration to implement best practice across all areas of the Charity.
- Report to the Finance Subcommittee on a regular basis and work closely with the Treasurer.
- To report regularly to the Board on progress against the strategic plan including forecasting.
- To work closely with the income generation teams and Director of Services to ensure that bids and tenders are financially viable.
Profile:
- Relevant Accountancy qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or QBE with very relevant experience.
- Extensive senior leadership experience in a similar role.
- Experience of leading and managing change, including changing finance systems.
- Significant experience of leading and developing high performing teams.
- Experience or knowledge of data protection and GDPR compliance.
- Experience of overseeing payroll.
- Excellent technical accounting skills.
- Ability to manage organisational change.
- Ability to lead with vision, developing associated strategies and plans for implementation.
- Evidence of strong leadership, highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of payroll management and systems.
- A thorough understanding of strategic financial management.
- Broad knowledge of statutory regulations and compliance relating to government bodies, companies and charities including finance, audit, data protection, governance, and risk management requirements.
