Rough Sleeper Support Worker    LOCATION:               Canterbury   SALARY:                   £12.68 Basic DURATION:Contract till March 2025  HOURS:                     30 per week  NOTE: WE ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE SPONSORSHIP OR SUPPORT THOSE ON A SKILLED WORKER VISA.Job OverviewThe Rough Sleeping support services provide support to rough sleepers in the district to secure and maintain accommodation and to people who are in insecure housing reducing the flow of new rough sleepers to the street.  The role will provide intensive support to clients at risk of homelessness and to those who have been placed into their own tenancies after a period of homelessness. Assistance with housing related support will be provided to prevent homelessness, which may include budgeting, debt management, education, employment, setting up home, neighbour complaints, health and safety, accessing welfare and housing benefits, mental health and substance misuse, landlord liaison and, referring and liaising with more specialised agencies where appropriate.Day-to-day duties:
  • Engage and establish positive working relationships with people who are at risk of homelessness, to either sustain their existing tenancy or by supporting the client to find more suitable accommodation solutions.
  • Support those who have been placed into their own tenancies after a period of homelessness, to maintain their tenancy through advocacy, liaison, advice and referral to more specialised agencies as appropriate. This may sometimes involve an element of ‘crisis management.’
  • Assist, advise and support clients with housing related support which may include budgeting, debt management, education, employment, training, setting up home, neighbour complaints, health and safety, accessing welfare and housing benefits, mental health and substance misuse, landlord liaison and, referring and liaising with more specialised agencies where appropriate. To support the client in accessing appropriate services and local amenities.
  • Assess the needs of applicants, helping clients to set the type, pace and direction of support received and to support clients to achieve their aims.’
  • Support clients to develop independent living skills and to be a responsible tenant by delivering training in small groups or on a 1:1 basis.
  • Work in close liaison and co-operation with other teams within organisation, the wider Rough Sleeper Initiative team and external statutory and voluntary agencies as deemed appropriate.
  • Undertake, review and amend risk assessments in relation to activities, clients, and the environment.
  • Regularly report, through supervision, on progress to the Service Manager, to ensure a high level of support is given to clients, and all files, records are kept accurately and up-to-date commensurate with ISO Standards and all monitoring systems.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date financial and administrative records and systems and assist in the compilation of monthly performance reports and other reports as required.
  • Promote appropriate client involvement in all aspects of the delivery of the service.
  • Manage a caseload of clients, adapting to the needs of the team and service when required.
