Robert Half Talent Solutions are recruiting an Assistant Accountant for a Cardiff based not-for-profit.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join a small, friendly team whilst providing a range of financial duties to support the business needs. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you will assist in delivering key initiatives to improve the efficiency of the business. This is a full-time, permanent role offering a salary of up to £30,000 per year, with excellent benefits and opportunities for development.

Location - Office in Cardiff (some home working will become available from April)

Interview / Start date - ASAP

Salary - £28,000 - £30,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of month-end and management accounts, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and ensure all financial deadlines are met.
  • Process and post monthly journals, including payroll, depreciation, prepayments, and accruals.
  • Reconcile bank statements and credit cards on a regular basis.
  • Oversee daily processing of financial transactions, ensuring real-time updates to the accounting system.
  • Manage the accurate raising of sales invoices and reconcile by month-end.
  • Support year-end audit preparation and address auditor queries.
  • Participate in stock reviews and reconciliations, collaborating with operations teams.
  • Execute weekly payment runs and ensure client refunds are processed promptly.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Stay up to date with accounting knowledge through training and professional development.
  • Provide support on ad hoc projects as required.

Your Profile

  • Experience working in a similar role.
  • AAT Qualified, a relevant Accounting & Finance degree, or qualified by experience.
  • Advanced IT skills, including Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables).
  • Experience with XERO accounting software is highly desirable.
  • Strong reconciliation skills, high attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a proactive and solution-focused approach.
  • Positive, can-do attitude and ability to manage workload effectively in a busy environment.
