Teachers are crucial to pupils learning, but without caretakers working hard behind the scenes, it would not be possible for teachers to teach in a safe environment. Caretakers ensure the smooth running of the school Caretaking is a rewarding role, and the role is situated within a support and organised school. Academics are looking for an experienced and proactive individual to work long-term in a Cardiff secondary school ASAP. The working hours are 8.30am - 4.30pm. This is a fantastic opportunity with someone with caretaking or maintenance experience who is looking for a role.
Roles and Responsibilities (School Caretaker):
- Undertake general maintenance to ensure the school premises are safe, clean, and well-maintained. These tasks and issues need to be acted upon promptly with urgency. E.g., sweeping, clearing litter and occasional gardening.
- Liaise with external contractors when required.
- Carry out routine checks and repairs to ensure they meet health and safety standards, e.g., fire alarm tests, heating, risk assessments.
- Supporting other school staff with cleaning duties (if necessary).
- Assist with setting up rooms for school events or activities e.g., exams, parents evening.

Essential Skills & Qualifications (School Caretaker):
- Proven experience in a caretaking or similar role.
- Responsible, punctual, and organised individual.
- Uses initiative to solve problems through a practical and hands on approach.
- Independent worker with excellent time keeping.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations.
- Physically active.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications (School Caretaker):
- Valid DBS (This check can be produced through us if needed)
- Live in Cardiff
- Driving licence and have access to a car
