Mechanical Engineer - Diesel Engines

Are you a skilled Mechanical Engineer passionate about diesel engines and looking for a role offering variety and growth? Join the new rental division of a well-established manufacturer experiencing exceptional growth!

This role offers a mix of depot-based and fieldwork responsibilities. It focuses on maintaining and repairing diesel engines that power large water pumps. You'll report to the Senior Engineer and play a crucial part in keeping our fleet in world-class condition.

With training provided for pump systems, this is an excellent opportunity to expand your expertise while enjoying a dynamic, supportive team environment.



Key Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and maintenance on the diesel-driven pump fleet.
  • Fault-find and resolve mechanical and electrical system issues.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and create method statements.
  • Plan and coordinate work efficiently to minimize downtime.
  • Provide technical support to customers and team members.
  • Assist with spare parts ordering and fleet management.
  • Liaise with customers, ensuring excellent service standards.
  • Participate in a callout rota (1 in 5 weeks, £80 standby rate).
  • Manage maintenance planning and daily project inquiries.


Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • Qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (HNC, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  • Mechanical bias with electrical knowledge.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with engine manufacturers (e.g., CAT, Perkins, Volvo, JCB).
  • OEM training or certifications.
  • Quarry passport, CSCS card, or similar qualifications.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.


Benefits

  • Competitive salary: £30,000 - £34,000 basic, with an annual bonus.
  • Overtime: 1.5x Monday to Saturday (up to 12 noon) and 2x after.
  • Company vehicle, phone, laptop, and all PPE/uniform provided.
  • Hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (1-hour lunch break).
  • Callout rota with £80 standby rate.
  • Training and development opportunities to expand your skill set.
