Job Title: Transport Planner

Location: Cardiff

Hours: 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Time TBC, depending on operational requirements

Reporting to: Transport Manager & Assistant Transport Manager

Job Purpose:

Forward Waste Management is a well-established, continuously growing company providing innovative and value-added waste management services, primarily focused towards the manufacturing sector.

The Transport Planner will support the Transport Team in the safe, efficient and proactive management of a varied HGV fleet. This includes Hook-loaders, Skip wagons, Rigids, Curtain-siders and Tankers.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Transport planning & administration
  • The efficient planning and routing of a fleet of HGV vehicles to ensure maximum efficiency and profitability, in line with internal KPIs and Service Level Agreements
  • Ensure all movements are planned and any issues are communicated to the wider team
  • Ensure all vehicles are planned according to the best possible price and haulage option
  • Complete Customer confirmations when planning, ensuring actions are follow-up
  • Ensure all paperwork is correct and distributed
  • Provide solutions and resolve transport issues - Communicating with Drivers, Customer Service Team and Suppliers
  • Sourcing Backloads to support the efficiency of the Transport team.
  • Compile driver timesheets and support the Transport Team in the recording and analysis of data.

Compliance

  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures and agreed working practices are followed at all times
  • Ensure drivers adhere to hours, WTD and tachograph regulations
  • Review and submit tachograph data
  • Supporting the Transport Team in ensuring that vehicles are compliant with all relevant legislation
  • Support the Transport Team in ensuring all vehicles are fully maintained by managing planned maintenance and servicing schedules by liaising with third party maintenance providers.
  • Support the Transport Team in ensuring that driver training is up to date. This includes the use of the IHasco training suite and the daily requirements of a driver working within the Waste / recycling sector.

Skills & experience:

Essential

  • Experience of route planning for drivers, choosing the most efficient and cost-effective routes.
  • Confident to communicate verbally and in writing with a variety of people to include drivers, internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Proven IT skills in the use of Outlook, and the internet with data entry to inhouse databases (Weighsoft)
  • Outstanding attention to accuracy and detail
  • Excellent working knowledge of health & safety requirements relating to the safe and efficient running of a HGV fleet.

Desirable

  • Experience of driving HGVs (with a working knowledge of related plant and machinery) AND/OR experience of working in a similar role within the Waste / Recycling sector
  • A solid commercial understanding of the Waste/Recycling industry
  • Understanding of HGVs and the plant and machinery (containers, compactors etc.) within the Waste / Recycling sector

Qualifications:

  • Class 1 and/or Class 2 HGV licences would be advantageous
  • Management Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) or willing to work towards it
