Commercial Finance Manager

Carlisle, Cumbria

£50,000 to £55,000 + Benefits

My client is a successful well established business based 10 miles west of Carlisle, they are now seeking to recruit a high calibre Commercial & Finance Manager.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director and functionally to the Group CFO the principal responsibilities of this all-encompassing role will include:

  • Preparing month end management accounts and presenting them to the Group Financial Controller.
  • Preparing month end schedules and relevant journals to support month end management information.
  • Processing bank, purchase and sales ledger transactions on Sage 50 Accounts.
  • Processing supplier invoices and payments using Sage 50 Accounts.
  • Raising customer invoices and carrying out credit control tasks when required.
  • Preparing and submitting monthly VAT returns to HMRC.
  • Preparing and reviewing monthly WIP sheets.
  • Preparing Balance Sheet reconciliations.
  • Preparing financial information for the MD’s Board pack.
  • KPI analysis including commentary and variance analysis.
  • Preparing monthly cash forecasts for review.
  • Preparation of the annual Budget, reviewing with the MD and presenting back to Group.
  • Leading Retreat year-end audits and liaising with Group as required.
  • Preparing, owning and reviewing stock count and stock valuations, investigating variances as appropriate.
  • Assisting in the preparation of tender estimates and tender appraisals, working closely with the MD.
  • Supply chain management including overseeing procurement and spending / ordering.
  • Creating project specific cost plans. Monitoring and reporting costs against budget.
  • Working with the MD to create, review and implement improvements to systems and processes within the business.
  • Map, plan and implement a cost coding and noncompliance measuring system.
  • Produce overspend and efficiency reports and assist in creating project specific success and failure reviews.
  • Assist in staff development.
  • Input to trade shows when required.
  • Involvement in Group tasks as required.

Candidate specification:

  • You will be a qualified accountant: ACMA, ACCA or ACA or possibly be in the final stages of gaining your qualification.
  • You must have at least three years commercial / financial management experience.
  • Be a high energy, professional individual.
  • Have a hands-on, proactive and solution oriented approach.
  • Have good communication and influencing skills, and be able to articulate commercial / financial matters to non-commercial / financial managers.
  • Have good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Have strong analytical skills.
  • Have advanced Excel skills.

The successful candidate will ideally have a proven track record in a similar role and will work closely with senior management to help support the growth of the business and to drive commercial and financial performance.
