Are you an experienced, qualified accountant with a passion for driving financial excellence? We are representing a large and diverse company, looking to appoint a diligent and highly organised leader to join their finance team, in a pivotal role of Head of Financial Reporting & Control, based in Carlisle.

Role overview:

Responsible for leading the financial reporting and control pillar, the role is responsible for upholding the financial integrity of the business and will oversee the financial reporting processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and maintaining robust financial controls. Working alongside the CFO, the Head of Financial Reporting & Control will be a valued member of the senior finance management team that plays a pivotal role in shaping the finance function.

Key responsibilities

Lead the planning, coordination and timely submission of accurate statutory and management reporting and accounting in accordance with relevant accounting standards

Assume leadership of a team of four, overseeing the accounting, reporting and reconciliation of business costs and balance sheet accounts

Ensure appropriate processes are in place for the accurate accounting, calculation and submission of VAT and corporation tax.

Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures to ensure the company’s processes are efficient, streamlined whilst ensuring that integrity is maintained.

Lead the annual internal and external audit process.

Consistently monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, driving improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency and ensuring these meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders

Responsibility for controlling and evaluating Capex spend and the management of working capital

Champion balance sheet and cashflow integrity ensuring there is a robust model in place to enable accurate reconciliation.

Take a lead role in the development of the Finance module within the company’s ERP system.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and professional development within the team

Adhere to Company and Group policies and procedures, including but not limited to those relating to Safety, Health and Environmental

To ensure all relevant legislation and approved codes of practice, are adhered to in respect of ongoing compliance.

Qualifications, skills & experience required for the role:

  • Fully qualified accountant with a minimum of three years PQE gained in either practice or industry.
  • Strong background in financial reporting and controls.
  • Effective communicator with ability to partner with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong accounting systems user, ideally ERP/larger software exposure, evidence of challenging and making improvements, maximise utilisation & automation.
  • Ability to think strategically and provide insight that drive business decisions.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Be a champion for continuous improvement and have demonstratable experience and evidence of leading relevant projects.
  • Strong analytical and planning skills.
  • Adaptable to change and managing multiple priorities.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary up to £75,000
