About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Engineering / Engineering Manager to oversee the engineering function at our Meal Solutions site, Cavaghan & Grey. This is a critical leadership role where you will be responsible for driving engineering excellence across our facilities, managing capital projects, and leading a diverse engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Leadership: Provide strong leadership to the engineering function, ensuring that the team delivers high-quality, reliable engineering support across all operations.
  • Project Management: Oversee engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Capital Expenditure: Manage a multi-million CAPEX budget annually, prioritising and overseeing the allocation of resources for key engineering projects.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to optimize equipment performance, minimize downtime, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Team Management: Lead a team of 5-6 direct reports and 46 indirect reports, overseeing talent development and ensuring the right skillsets are in place for operational success.

Key Skills

  • Degree-qualified in an engineering discipline, or equivalent experience, including service leavers within an engineering field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an engineering management role, preferably within food manufacturing or a similarly regulated industry.
  • Demonstrable experience in leading and motivating large-scale engineering teams.
  • Strong technical expertise, with a solid understanding of plant operations, automation, and highly regulated environments.
  • Proven ability to lead by example, with strong leadership and people management skills. Empathy and effective communication skills are crucial.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to identify issues quickly, develop solutions, and implement them efficiently.
  • Industry Background: Experience in food manufacturing, food safety, plant engineering, automation, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • BRC (British Retail Consortium) Certified or similar food safety standards.
