We are currently looking for a Traffic Planner to join our Milk reload team based in Longtown.

We are looking for a well organised individual who will be responsible for the planning of our milk reload vehicle movements, working alongside other Traffic Planners within the Milk Operation teams to efficiently schedule daily planning activity, ensuring the most efficient use of vehicles and drivers during collections and deliveries, whilst taking account of WTR and Drivers Hours Rules, vehicle weights and dimensions and the Road Traffic Act.

Responsibilities

Effective planning of an agreed amount of resource (vehicles, drivers, trailers) maximising vehicle utilisation and minimising cost.

Ensuring planned routes are in line with working time directive (WTD) and drivers hours rules.

Effective communication with stakeholders to ensure agreed customer SLAs are achieved and maintained, in conjunction with other departments and customer requirements.

Liaise with relevant internal departments to ensure that customers are notified (and charges reflect) of any changes to collections / deliveries.

Allocation of work from vehicles, drivers, collections and deliveries are as efficient as possible taking into account customer requirements,

Ensure Company and DTAS (Dairy Transport Assurance Scheme) procedures are followed.

Ensure paperwork and KPI information is kept up to date and accurately recorded onto company and other IT systems, understanding and achieving KPI targets relating to the safe and efficient use of our fleet.

Communicate with Operational Leads to maximise collaboration between departments and increase profitability for the organisation.

Daily support with drivers, handling real time communications, solving or escalating issues and concerns as appropriate where they occur.

Driver de-briefings, checking and authorising driver timesheets, and download of Tachograph data.

Requirements

A good knowledge of Milk Haulage transport would be advantageous.

Previous Transport and logistics experience

Previous use of transport systems

Strong understanding of drivers hours regulations and working time directive.

Excellent problem-solving skills with an analytical approach.

Good interpersonal skills, written and verbal.

Ability to work unsupervised, or as part of a team, and be able to use your own initiative

Confident, outgoing personality with a can do attitude

Have excellent attention to detail

Good numerical and analytical skills, including experience of spreadsheets and computer-based systems, including Microsoft products.

Flexible approach to work demands, including some evening and weekend work.

Good telephone manner and communication skills.

The Traffic Planner must have a flexible approach to work demands and need to be an effective communicator with great organisational skills, being able to stay calm under pressure, thriving in a busy and fast-paced environment.

The role will involve working over 7 days on rolling shift pattern of 4 days on 4 days off. The hours for this role will be 12 hours per day with a 30-minute unpaid break.
