We are seeking a dedicated Child Protection Conference Chair/Independent Reviewing Officer to oversee child protection case conferences and statutory reviews for children looked after by the local authority. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and appropriate care of children at risk.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Chair child protection conferences and review meetings, ensuring all statutory requirements and departmental policies are met.
  • Monitor the quality and appropriateness of child protection and care plans, taking necessary actions to ensure their effectiveness.
  • Engage children, families, and substitute carers in the planning and review processes.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to managers and staff to ensure high standards of care and practice are maintained.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures and offer specialist advice on planning for children.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Recognised social work qualification (DIPSW, CQSW, CSS).
  • Minimum of 5 years post-qualifying experience in social work with children and families.
  • Extensive knowledge of the legal framework relating to looked after children, including Nation Minimum Standards and Care Planning and Review Regulations 2010.
  • Proven experience in chairing meetings involving children and families.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships across various levels and agencies.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings as needed.
