Literacy Coordinator Newham

TLTP are recruiting for a Literacy Coordinator to work in a PRU in Newham.

This role will be long term sickness cover and will start asap.

Overall Purpose of Literacy Coordinator role

To lead on the development and implementation of the whole school policy for Literacy, Assessment, and Intervention

To work collaboratively with colleagues across sites, including providing advice and guidance to colleagues across the Newham PRUs to ensure best practice and consistency in approach.

To deliver training and provide guidance to staff to support the development and embedding of Literacy teaching and intervention across the Curriculum.

To carry out other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the Headteacher.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Work together with Heads of Departments to develop and embed a Literacy Strategy across the Newham PRUs schools.
  • Collaborate with staff on short, medium and long term planning to develop Literacy in relation to the aims of the school (including its policies and practices), Teaching and Learning and challenging targets for improvement.
  • To develop and embed systems and procedures for Literacy screening, assessing, referring, monitoring and evaluating Literacy support and intervention across the curriculum.
  • Develop and embed systems to track, monitor and evaluate Literacy assessment / screening data to identify trends in pupil performance and areas for development.
  • Use national, local and school management data to monitor standards of achievement across the school in Literacy and use feedback from quality assurance process to inform planning.
  • Develop and implement intervention strategies to address issues / areas for improvement in Literacy Support and Intervention, and evaluate and report on effectiveness of such strategies.

Leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of others

  • Monitor, support and evaluate the planning and teaching of Literacy across all subjects, providing constructive and developmental feedback on a regular basis to staff (if applicable).
  • Advise and provide strategies to colleagues across the school in order to develop and support effective planning and teaching across the curriculum which ensure pupil’s Literacy needs are supported and addressed.
  • Share examples of effective planning practice within Literacy.
  • Demonstrate outstanding and best practice in Literacy teaching and support, and promotion of Literacy excellence across the School.

Lead, manage and develop the educational provision and an agreed area of PRU development

  • Co-ordinate the implementation and evaluation of strategies to achieve relevant school development priorities that have been identified in the PRU.  (Area of development for which post holder to be responsible to be negotiated annually).
  • Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of practice for areas of responsibility annually, suggesting areas and issues for further improvement.
  • Lead on the evaluation and writing the Literacy Support and Intervention SEF and Literacy Support and Intervention Action Plan.
  • Deliver staff induction, training and INSET as required.
