Principal Civil Engineer

Our tier 1 contractor in the water sector are seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join their new Northumbrian Water framework based in the Essex and Suffolk region on a permanent basis.

You will report directly to the Regional Discipline Lead - Civil or the Senior Design Manager. This role will necessitate traveling to other client regions initially to embed/onboard (likely Thames or Anglian).

The programme of work, across a variety of water and wastewater schemes is expected to be in the region of 280M.

Responsibilities

• Produce design layouts which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
• Ensure that standard practices are utilised where ever possible.
• Maintain competitiveness
• Provide estimates and feedback for Proposals department
• Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department
• Assist in developing procedures and processes
• Monitor and review the procedures and processes
• Write, update and monitor efficient procedures to aid the smooth running of the department.
• Ensure co-ordination of designs with all other disciplines internal and external to client in order to ensure that the design processes carried out on the contract are co-ordinated for the benefit of the contract as a whole.
• Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.

Skills/experience/qualifications

• Demonstrable experience and knowledge of engineering principles including structures, materials, geotechnics, hydraulics and environmental engineering.
• Working knowledge of roles and responsibilities under CDM 2015
• Working knowledge of industry standards (BS, CESWI, WIMES etc.) and relevant legislation (Water Industry Act 1991, The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016)
• Strong understanding of the principles of water and sewage treatment.
• Have experience of managing members of staff in designing relevant discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants
• Membership of a professional institution / chartered
• Relevant discipline Engineering degree - civils
• Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts
• Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, e.g. mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering and project management
• A flexible mind, with the ability to assimilate large amounts of different data at one time
• Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly
• Computer literacy
• Driving license/commutable distance from Essex and Suffolk region
