My high-profile Utilities client is looking for a Safety and Compliance Officer to join their team. The role will be home based with occasional travel to various sites across the UK depending on your location.

As the Safety and Compliance Officer, you will oversee a portfolio of projects, ensuring compliance and competence throughout the supply chain and project execution teams. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to provide assurance and support in the area of safety, health, and environmental standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Interface with contractors on a day-to-day basis, monitoring construction activities and resolving any programme risk escalations on behalf of the Project Director.
  • Provide up-to-date project performance and technical advice as a subject matter expert on safety, health, and environmental issues and legislative compliance.
  • Review permit to work systems, assess the suitability of Risk Assessments and Method Statements, and ensure the Principal Contractors are proactive in discharging their duties under CDM regulations.
  • Support regular site construction meetings and conduct site safety walks to ensure adherence to the agreed Construction Phase Plan.
  • Review and implement improvement initiatives identified through monitoring of site construction activities and manage the resolution of issues raised through SHEQ audit and inspection activities.
  • Ensure compliance of all site documents with legislation, adhering to formal document control procedures and utilising relevant project document control systems.
  • Actively participate in incident investigations and represent the department on incident investigation panels as required, including the management of IMS and associated actions.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within the utilities industry.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of safety, health, and environmental legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide expert advice on safety, health, and environmental matters.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Relevant certifications and qualifications in health and safety will be advantageous.
