On behalf of a large organisation based in Essex, I am seeking a Head of HR Shared Services to play a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of their evolving HR shared and traded services. This role is crucial in expanding their services to encompass a diverse client group, including local government, schools, academies, and partner organisations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving high-quality, cost-effective HR services and ensuring the sustainability of their offerings in a dynamic environment.

Job Purpose:
  • Develop and lead the implementation of a comprehensive commercial strategy for the People & Organisation Development Service.
  • Manage complex communications at a senior level, including presenting, engaging, and influencing corporate and political leadership teams.
  • Be an active member of the senior leadership team, fostering collaboration and breaking down silos within the organisation.
  • Own financial performance, managing budgets, maximising income generation, and identifying cost efficiencies within shared services.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring that shared services consistently meet or exceed expectations.
  • Drive operational efficiency by implementing robust processes, monitoring service delivery, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Continuously assess and develop the portfolio of shared services, ensuring offerings remain innovative, competitive, and aligned with client requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Educated to master’s level in a relevant professional field such as Business Management or Human Resources, or equivalent by experience.
  • Professional membership of CIPD or other relevant professional body
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a traded environment, building relationships, generating business, and achieving income targets, preferably within local government.
  • Proven HR experience at a senior level within local government, with a track record of developing and implementing processes and systems.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with corporate and political decision makers.
  • Experience in establishing positive relationships across diverse settings and developing relevant Service Level Agreements to secure quality of outputs.
