Electoral Services Officer - The Role:
The successful candidate will be supporting the Electoral Services Manager and team with the effective and efficient delivery of the annual canvass and electoral registration process, and the organisation of all elections and referenda held in the borough.
This is a part-time position for 22.2 hours per week worked Monday-Wednesday.
Electoral Services Officer – Key Responsibilities:
- To assist with implementing and conducting the annual canvass each year
- To assist with the day-to-day administration of the preparation, publication and
maintenance of the Register of Electors under Individual Registration and the special
category lists of electors and deal with the day-to-day enquiries from members of the
public, councillors and other agencies
- To assist with the organisation of the distribution and sale of information and data from
the electoral register and election documents
- To support and assist with the conduct of all aspects of elections, referenda and parish
polls
- To assist with maintaining the elections and registration webpage of the Council’s website
to ensure information is up to date and accurate
- To support and assist with the supervising of temporary and causal staff within the section
- To assist with the provision of training and support to permanent, temporary and casual
staff within the section
- To undertake such duties as allocated by the Electoral Services Manager
Electoral Services Officer - You:
- GCSEs (5 A-Cs or equivalent, including Maths and English) or relevant work experience
- Experience of working with a busy office environment – dealing with difficult enquiries
from members of the public
- Experience of working effectively as part of a team
- Experience of using Microsoft office packages – Outlook, Word, Excel
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and to critical deadlines for prolonged periods
- Ability to organise own and that of others multi task workloads to meet tight deadline
- Attention to detail and a retentive memory
- Effective supervisory and leadership skills
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels (excellent verbal and written skills)
- Prioritises and meets tight deadlines
- To have a flexible and adaptable approach to work
