WorkPlace HR is a thriving UK-based Human Resource specialist providing Outsourced HR Administration and Employment Law advice. We have been supporting our significantly increased client base for over 15 years and as part of our suite of services, we can now support businesses globally with Contracts of Employment, Employment Law Advice and Visa Sponsorship within multiple jurisdictions.
We are now seeking a HR & Employment Law Advisor to join our thriving team. This role is based from home however travel to client sites may be required on an ad hoc basis. We are open to considering both full and part time candidates.
Purpose of Role
The post holder is responsible for providing accurate, concise and practical advice on employment law and best practice for all client queries.
Key Accountabilities

You will look after a portfolio of clients, meaning you will act as first point of contact for a number of small to medium sized clients advising on all manner of issues relating to the employment of their staff on basic to medium level matters such as disciplinary, grievance, maternity, paternity, performance management and contract queries. Some administration may also be necessary subject to the client requirements.
- You will conduct client Handbook and Contract reviews, as well as policy writing
- You will assist the admin team on HR related queries, and monitoring that the advice provided to clients by the admin team complies with legislative requirements and best practice raising any concerns with the HR Director
- You will actively demonstrate a good knowledge of employment law and HR best practice and keep up to date with changes in legislation.
- You will maintain detailed notes of calls taken and advice given for liability and accountability purposes, or in the event that another team member needs to pick up the query/project. All advice and notes taken should be followed up via email with the client as soon as possible after the conversation/advice given, and the CRM system updated
- You will update the HR system when appropriate with all changes/documentation, in line with our process and procedures and client requirements
- You will act responsibly every day to ensure the Company and clients remain diligent with their and our requirements under GDPR and Data Protection regulations in force. This will include correct data retention and updating the internal GDPR Comply system where appropriate
- Document review and control for Employee Handbooks, Contracts of employment, letters and other employment documents including legalistic documents produced by other internal staff
- You will travel to client sites as and when required
- You will be responsible for auditing your client files. For some clients, this will be undertaken with an HR Administrator, but in the absence of a client Administrator, the duty will fall to the Advisor. Any audit gaps/concerns should be followed up by the Advisor and the client chased until complete
- You may assist clients in their payroll processing
Other Activities, Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain good lines of communications with the HR Director, flagging any concerns as appropriate.
- Assist the HR Director with project and case work as required, and handle your own basic to medium level projects where the opportunity arises
- Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times for both WPHR and its clients
- Ensure all relevant information is retained on the Company’s GDPR software where relevant for the client
- Seek to identify further work opportunities and discuss these with the HR Director
- Attend internal team meetings as and when required
- Travel to meet clients when needed and requested
- Attend client meetings as required (you may also be required to work from a client site from time to time to assist with any internal HR enquiries and administration)
- Assist with ad hoc research project work on behalf of WPHR
- Attend/run events, seminars and training workshops for clients and prospective clients, as required
- Assist in new client set ups, ensuring all documentation is reviewed and audited where necessary/required
- Any other duties as are reasonably required.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- An intermediate qualification in HR or Employment Law
- 2 years prior experience within a similar role of HR Office/Advisor/Manager
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment where planning, organising, prioritising and multi-tasking were required
- Knowledge of MS Office, in particular Outlook, Word and Excel
- Previous administration experience
- The ability to adapt to different computer systems
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in reviewing contracts and handbooks in line with current legislation and best practice
- Experience in managing basic employment law matters such as disciplinary and grievance processes ensuring that best practice is followed at all times
- A solid medium level knowledge of current employment law and best practice
- Good interpersonal skills including both the desire and the ability to make a good first impression and build trust with the client, and also to adapt to their audience
Desirable
- CIPD Level 5 or similar qualification
- Previous experience within a consultancy or multi-site environment
- Experience working within several different sectors
- Experience using any HR database/or CRM software
- Knowledge of TUPE
