Our client, a leading UK distribution site for an international producer of essential oils and ingredients, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Graduate Quality Control Chemist to join their growing team. About the Role:As a Graduate Quality Control Chemist, you will play a vital role in maintaining the highest quality standards in the lab. You will be responsible for the chemical and physical analysis of essential oils, including GC/MS, GC/FID, HPLC, and FAME testing, as well as participating in evaluations. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that the laboratory is maintained in a clean and orderly condition, identifying and reporting any hazards to the Quality Control Manager, and conducting routine instrument validations. A significant part of this role involves data analysis, interpretation, and delivering detailed reports. You will be responsible for issuing and updating Certificates of Analysis for raw materials and finished products, maintaining technical data sheets, and organising samples according to production dates. Additionally, you will be supporting the QC Manager in the implementation of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System within the analytical lab, assisting with the preparation of assurance quality documents, and working closely with other departments such as production, development, and purchasing. Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct chemical and physical analyses using advanced techniques, including GC/MS, GC/FID, HPLC, and FAME testing.
  • Perform regular data analysis, interpretation, and report generation.
  • Maintain accurate analysis records in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Support the preparation of quality assurance documents, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety procedures.
  • Assist in implementing the ISO 9001 Quality Management System within the analytical lab.
  • Issue and update Certificates of Analysis and Technical Data Sheets for all products.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments to ensure quality and consistency of products.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • A degree in Chemistry or a related field.
  • Familiarity and experience with GC analytical techniques
  • Experience with Shimadzu software is advantageous but not necessary.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong team-working skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • An interest in essential oils, food science, or a related field is beneficial.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in GC method development.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality standards and good laboratory practices.
This role is Monday to Friday 8:30am - 17:00pm with a 60 min break. If you take a 30 min break you may finish at 16:30pm.
