Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Engineer (F&DT Engineer)

Location: Chester, UK

Type: Contract, Inside IR35

Length: 12 months

Belcan is on the lookout for a talented Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Engineer (F&DT) to join our aerospace client's busy Analysis team. Your main focus will be on addressing issues related to the main wingbox, fixed leading edge, trailing edge structures, and control surfaces (moveables) on the outer wing.

Key Responsibilities:

Your day-to-day tasks will involve performing F&DT analysis of composite and metallic aircraft structures using standard fatigue, crack growth, and residual strength calculations. You'll also be defining, scoping, and providing technical guidance for F&DT work packages, both internally and with suppliers.

You'll be responsible for approving F&DT analysis and associated deliverables, such as stress dossiers, interface loads reports, and test and certification reports. You'll work closely with the methods and data group to ensure that the methods, assumptions, data, and procedures used are appropriate.

In addition, you'll be providing guidance on airworthiness regulations and requirements to the rest of the team. You'll also be advising and supporting the static stress and design group in continuous product development activities. Supporting the Chief Engineers Office in product development tasks, production, and in-service issues will also be part of your role.

You'll be offering technical advice and solutions to the concession teams for particularly complex repairs. Occasionally, you may need to travel between sites to attend meetings and reviews.

Required Skills and Experience:

As a F&DT Engineer you'll need at least 5 years of experience in the aerospace industry, with a deep understanding of fatigue and damage tolerance principles. Ideally, you should have signatory status at the approval level, or the capability to attain this status within a short period.

You should have proven experience in fatigue and crack growth analysis of metallic structures, along with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently. An understanding of fundamental fatigue and crack growth analysis methods is essential.

Leadership skills are crucial, as you'll need experience in delivering certification activities.

Experience with PC and mainframe computer systems, and a good knowledge of FE analysis application, are also required. Proficiency in using F&DT tools (ISAMI or equivalent) is essential.
