We’re looking for a Principal Engineer (Criticality). Based at our Capenhurst location you will act as a Technical Authority and Intelligent Customer for Criticality Safety Assessments. The Principal Engineer (Criticality) is accountable for leading delivery of criticality assessments to cost, time and quality, determining appropriate assessment methodologies to apply, and structuring assessments to ensure they are fit for purpose and manageable throughout their life. They are to undertake peer reviews of assessments produced by others, including the supply chain, and provide expert advice to the wider UUK business on the detailed content of safety cases on site.

What you’ll do:  

  • Producing and managing the production of criticality assessment deliverables in accordance with the UUK SAH and industry good practice
  • Developing, reviewing and approving achievable project plans and schedules such that the proposed packages of work can be effectively delivered to time and schedule.
  • Undertaking competency assessments for UUK and supply chain resources (Criticality)
  • Identifying and making updates and revisions to the UUK Safety Case Framework to ensure it remains current and compliant with industry good practice.
  • Producing ad-hoc assessments input to Change Modification Proposals (CMPs), advice and guidance to the Site Safety Case Manager in response to events and in support of business improvements.
  • Developing criticality training modules for the wider business
  • Team management

 

What do you need to thrive in this role?

• Degree in relevant discipline-specific Engineering.

• Previous experience as at a Senior level as a Criticality Safety Assessor or Nuclear Safety Assessor.

• Competent Criticality Assessor and Peer Reviewer.

• Possesses a detailed knowledge and understanding of how specialist disciplines input and support the development of a Nuclear Safety Case.

  • Experience of managing a small team is desired however not essential.

• Thorough understanding of the UK Regulatory Framework and Regulator expectations in respect of criticality submissions.

• Has experience of each stage of the Safety Case lifecycle and experience of Safety Cases from other Licensees.

• Strong analytical thinking/problem solving skills

• Ability to remain calm and professional during an emergency situation.
