Your new companyHays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Chester-based SEND school as they are looking to recruit motivated and reliable teaching assistants to support pupils with a dual diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal. This school supports pupils from EYFS - KS4 with each class consisting of 6 - 8 pupils. They are looking to appoint a number of teaching assistants for full-time, long-term contracts.Your new roleIn your new role as a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting pupils with complex and profound needs on a 1:1 and small group basis. Each pupil has an individual EHCP that you will work towards and typically has a diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal. Due to the complexity of the needs of the pupils, they may at times present challenging behaviours. You will ensure that all learning is delivered in a safe, inclusive and accessible learning environment by taking a pupil-centred approach to education and effectively monitoring pupil triggers and escalation points. You will aid in behaviour management by implementing a myriad of positive behaviour techniques including sensory therapy, de-escalation, and reflexion. As numerous pupils are non-verbal, the use of PECs and Makaton are paramount within the school, with all classrooms being clearly labelled with visual aids.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as recent referenceable experience supporting children/young people/adults with complex needs, as well as:

  • Previous experience supporting or knowledge of ASD and non-verbal
  • The ability to take a pupil-centred approach to education
  • Experience using PECs and/or Makaton is advantageous but not essential
  • Be comfortable with personal care
  • Be able to commit to full-time hours (8:30am - 3:30pm)
