Your new companyHays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a Chester-based SEND school that supports pupils with a dual diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal between the ages of 4 - 17, as they are looking to recruit a number of motivated and reliable teaching assistants for long-term full-time contracts. This school are looking for people to start on a full-time basis after the February half-term, but can accommodate immediate starts if required.Your new roleAs a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting pupils with complex SEN on a 1:1 basis. You will act as your pupils' main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gate in the morning and walking them back to their grown-up at the end of the day. As you will be supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, you will support them inside and outside the classroom, including during break/lunch times. You will take a pupil centred approach to learning to ensure that each pupil's individual needs, emotional state and EHCP's are met and to effectively manage their behaviours. As a large number of pupils within this school are non-verbal, you will effectively use PECs and Makaton to communicate as well as offer speech and language sessions.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as recent referenceable experience supporting young people with complex SEN (ideally ASD, non-verbal and/or LD), as well as:

  • Experience using PECs and/or Makaton
  • Be able to commit to a full-time contract with hours consisting of 8:45am - 3:45pm
  • An NVQ Level 2 Children's Care Learning and Development in Schools in advantageous but not essential
